The Replacements have begun playing shows again so gradually that we wouldn’t blame you if you forgot. They’ve hit half a dozen festivals so far, and in our experience their set has been really enjoyable. Now the band has announced a show 9/19 at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens with support from the Hold Steady, which is pretty much the ultimate generational cross-over of drunken, poetic, and hard rocking bar bands. It’s the Replacements’ first show in NYC in 23 years. Tickets go on sale this Saturday at 11 AM, which is obviously a cruel trick on all of the hardcore ’Mats and Hold Steady fans who will be spending Saturday morning hungover.

  1. They played their first reunion show in Toronto last year. Someone yelled out “Androgynous” and even though they obviously hadn’t planned to play it, they did anyway. Westerberg forgot the lyrics halfway through but the crowd filled in. What a perfect song to sing-along to and what a great show – go if you can.
