Brooklyn’s Afropunk Festival is about to enter its 10th year, and this time around, it’ll have its biggest lineup ever. This year’s show goes down 8/23-24 at Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park, and the once-reclusive D’Angelo will headline alongside the British folk-soul singer Lianna La Havas. The rest of the lineup veers all over the map, and it’s absolutely not the sort of lineup that every major fest seems to be regurgitating this summer. It includes Ice-T’s reanimated metal band Body Count, Trash Talk, Shabazz Palaces, SZA, Clipping., the Internet, Fishbone, Meshell Ndegeocello, Cold Specks, Cakes Da Killa, and many others, as well as DJ sets from Jersey club scene heroes like DJ Slink, MikeQ, and Uniique. It’s really, really nice to see a festival lineup that doesn’t limit itself to a single genre but still has a sense of identity; there aren’t too many of those left.
