Karen O Announces Solo Debut Crush Songs

Karen O - Crush Songs

Karen Lee Orzolek, known to most of us as Karen O, has led the Yeah Yeah Yeahs for 14 years, but she’s never released a solo album. (Her score for Spike Jonze’s Where The Wild Things Are was credited to Karen O And The Kids.) That changes this fall, when Karen will release Crush Songs, an LP of lo-fi bedroom songs that she recorded in 2006 and 2007. According to a press release, those songs will sound something like “The Moon Song,” her Oscar-nominated contribution to Jonze’s Her.

For the albums release, Karen has signed with Cult Records, the label run by Strokes frontman and fellow early-’00s New York rock-boom veteran Julian Casablancas. Here’s what she has to say about the LP in a press release: “When I was 27, I crushed a lot. I wasn’t sure I’d ever fall in love again. These songs were written and recorded in private around this time. They were the soundtrack to what was an ever continuing love crusade. I hope they keep you company on yours.”

Crush Songs is out 9/9 on Cult.
