You Blue It

You Blew It!’s version of “Surf Wax America” from their Weezer tribute EP You Blue It altered the song ever so slightly to align it with the Orlando emo combo’s aesthetic. For their take on Blue Album opener “My Name Is Jonas,” though, they played it straight. Frontman Tanner Jones explains why:

To say that My Name Is Jonas is an imperfect song would be the biggest lie of all time and is probably the easiest way to out yourself as a clear poseur. This made covering it very tough. After hours of pulling our hair out, we realized that altering it just for the sake of change might be borderline sacrilegious. For good conscience, we decided to keep the song as is, and bow our heads in respect for a song that begs nothing but tribute.

  1. “After hours of pulling our hair out, we realized that altering it just for the sake of change might be borderline sacrilegious.”

Then don’t cover it, you fuckin poseurs.

  2. They sound pretty good but it’s pointless. If I wanted to hear My Name Is Jonas I’d listen to the original.
