We could have concluded Death Grips weren’t playing Fun Fun Fun Fest even if the organizers hadn’t poked fun at the band’s recent breakup. Now it turns out Death Cab For Cutie — another Death band, albeit one almost entirely on the other side of the musical spectrum — have pulled out too. A press release from the festival includes Death Cab’s cancellation notice: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, Death Cab for Cutie had to cancel their performance. The band is very sad to miss out on FFF, and they look forward to returning to Austin in 2015.” Perhaps they’re busy that weekend working with MC Ride and Zach Hill on their anticipated Death Grips For Cutie collaborative project. (Note: There is no Death Grips For Cutie project — well, except for this.) No other Death Cab dates have been canceled.

Modest Mouse, another epochal ’90s underground power-turned-indie rock mainstream ambassador from just outside Seattle, will replace Death Cab at FFF. Murder City Devils have signed on to take Death Grips’ spot.

Fun Fun Fun Fest is going down 11/7-9 at Austin’s Auditorium Shores. Check out the rest of the lineup here.
