Sinkane – “How We Be”

Sinkane

The Sudanese-born and New York-based musician Ahmed Gallab, who records as Sinkane, worked as a session musician with a ton of indie types before breaking out with his solo album Mars in 2012, and he’ll follow it up with sophomore effort Mean Love later this year. Thus far, everything we’ve heard from Mean Love further establishes Gallab as a true polyglot, an artist capable of working in a ton of different styles without losing what’s distinctive about himself. First single “Hold Tight” was expansive, languid soul, and now he’s followed it with “How We Be,” a supremely chill take on ’70s blaxploitation funk. It’s a beautifully produced song and a sublime groove, and you can hear it below.

Mean Love is out 9/2 on DFA.
