On Wednesday, Jamie xx debuted a new song by James Blake on BBC Radio 1, and last night as part of his Radio 1 residency, Blake debuted another new tune. Like the last one, this doesn’t have a title yet, but it’s likely a glimpse into what Blake is working on as he finishes his new album. So far this new stuff sounds like a departure from his current singer-songwriter approach, or more accurately, it sounds like a return to the deconstructed dance music that he made his name on with his groundbreaking run of three EPs (the best three EPs since those Three EPs). Another treat comes when he follows it with a brand new single from friend, former touring guitarist, and collaborator Airhead. That one does have a title, “October,” and it’s just as required listening as the new Blake. Head to Radio 1 and listen; if you’re short on time, the Blake track starts just about one hour and three minutes into the mix.
