Alvvays - "Archie, Marry Me" Video

Alvvays don’t reinvent the wheel on their self-titled debut and they don’t do anything outrageous for the “Archie, Marry Me,” video, but everything they do is so charming and well-executed that it doesn’t really matter. When a band plays into tropes as well as they do, it just elevates them as a highlight of the blissed-out pop genre. The video features grainy footage of the Toronto band on the beach and at sea, with frontwoman Molly Rankin’s striking platinum blonde hair always at the forefront. Watch below.

Alvvays’ self-titled debut album is out now on Polyvinyl.

  1. There are a lot of times, especially as a record collector, where you’re not looking for anything groundbreaking you’re just looking for well executed aesthetic and these guys do it so well. The songs are catchy and light and don’t require too much thinking, which isn’t an insult since the music makes you feel on different levels. gotta give a shout out to all the people who praised this album when it came out on the AOTW boards because without them I wouldn’t have found such a nice, consistent album

    • This album deserves all the love it’s getting. I listened to it about 3 times already today. I love how familiar and catchy it is, like indie comfort food.

  2. Best Coast meets Camera Obscura. Love, love, love this band.
Can’t wait to put the following two songs back to back on a mix disc (yup, I still make ‘em)

    Archie, Marry Me – Alvvays
Lloyd, I’m ready to be heartbroken – Camera Obscura
