Last month we premiered a delightful pop song by the artist Katie Kate titled “Sadie Hawkins,” but when you dive into Seattle singer Katie Finn’s Nation, you’ll find a wealth of different styles that nonetheless blend just right. The surprise here isn’t just in the music, but also in the varieties of delivery — a great number of these tracks find Finn rapping, which leads to wonderful highlights like “Persephone.” That song opens with Finn singing elegantly over a noir-ish melody before both she and the music grow absolutely warlike. It’s an extremely varied record with a lot of surprises. Stream it below.
Nation will be self-released 8/5. Order it here.
