Ryn Weaver

Earlier this summer, the relatively unknown singer Ryn Weaver came out of nowhere with “OctaHate,” a spiraling-skyward single co-produced by Passion Pit’s Michael Angelakos, Charli XCX, Benny Blanco, and Cashmere Cat. We were impressed. Weaver is working on a new EP called Promises, and that EP’s second single is also its title track. “OctaHate” was a tough act to follow, but “Promises” is cut from the same cloth; it’s a dizzy and emotive computer-pop song with a vast, barnstorming chorus. Listen to it below.

Weaver’s Promises EP is coming soon on Blanco’s new label Friends Keep Secrets.

  1. she definitely has talent. it sucks that as she said in a comment that she is broke even though her tracks are getting shared all around the blog scene. goes to show how broken this system is in a way

  2. This sounds like it was written by a computer program trying to synthesize years of indie pop. Totally unemotive and uninteresting.

    • I know, right? So bland. It’s like Florence + The Machine singing over a Passion Pit instrumental with a melody that was written by Imagine Dragons. The chorus is awful. EZ rock, 4-chord, major key, generic lyrics, could be played between Kelly Clarkson and Sara Bareilles.

  3. Lets see how much the gum hype machine pushes her to the forefront.

  4. @elvis vs Shark. Do you know why it sounds like a passion pit instrumental? its because it is Passion pit is producing her at the moment
“Aside from working on the new PP record, I’ve been working with the amazing Ryn Weaver.” It was on the guys tumblr apparently.
