Last year, the Houston-born rapper/producer Travi$ Scott broke out with his own Owl Pharaoh mixtape, and he also played an important role in Kanye West’s Yeezus sessions, with his name turning up a number of times in the album credits. At SXSW this past year, I saw him explode with energy across a couple of stages, spending more time stagediving and throwing water and bugging out than he did actually rapping. He is a figure on the rise, and now he’s followed Owl Pharaoh new mixtape called Days Before Rodeo. The new tape has appearances from T.I., Young Thug, Rich Homie Quan, Migos, PeeWee Longway, Big Sean, and the 1975, and it also has a ton of Scott’s heavily Auto-Tuned apocalyptic fake-patois growls.
