Uber Spokesman Diplo Preps Collabs With Lorde, Cat Power, Madonna, Chris Brown

In a cover story for Billboard, reigning pop king Diplo shared a wealth of information about upcoming collaborations, his “perpetual motion machine” lifestyle, and his sponsorship deal with Uber. Here are the goods: In 2015, he’s putting out a new Major Lazer album and launching a Major Lazer cartoon on Fox about a “Rasta superhero,” the soundtrack for which will include collabs with Cat Power and RiFF RAFF. His new project with Skrillex, Jack U, also features Canadian dance-pop singer Kiesza on a song originally intended for Usher. He put in some work on Usher’s upcoming album, and he’s been working on new music with Lorde, Chris Brown, and Ty Dolla $ign. Finally, he’s already gotten through three studio sessions with Madonna and producer Ariel Rechtshaid for Madonna’s new album. According to Diplo, three of songs they’ve been working on are “just like amazing, smashes,” while one is “super weird. Late one night in the studio we got a little bit drunk and she improvised a little hook and we made a song out of it. I think it’s going to be a breakthrough if she can manage to get everything together and get it out properly.” Basically, Diplo is now the Kevin Bacon of the pop world.

And while he sadly didn’t make this year’s list of highest-paid DJs, Diplo reportedly charges between $40,000 to $50,000 for a single beat, earns somewhere between $10 million and $12 million a year, and gets $400 of Uber credit a month for mentioning the car service app on Twitter.
