Watch Arcade Fire Cover “Hot Hot Hot” With Buster Poindexter In Brooklyn

On Friday night, Arcade Fire played the first of three shows at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. For the city-appropriate cover song to kick off the encore they took none of Stereogum’s suggestions! Instead, after the bobbleheads faked out the crowd with New York Dolls’ “Personality Crisis,” the band invited that song’s singer David Johansen to join them as his Buster Poindexter alter ego and perform his ’87 hit and Bar Mitzvah staple “Hot Hot Hot” (itself a cover of soca star Arrow). Yes, there was a conga line! Watch some great fan-shot video of the whole affair below.

Funnily enough, Johansen let the cat out of the bag well before the show on Buster Poindexter’s Facebook. This is the first guest Arcade Fire have brought out since covering Echo And The Bunnymen with Ian McCulloch in June. Those expecting a James Murphy cameo in Brooklyn were almost right — the band teased LCD Soundsystem’s “All My Friends” in the intro to “Keep The Car Running.”
