Honeyblood – “Mesmerizing” (Liz Phair Cover)

Honeyblood

Earlier this summer, the Scottish duo Honeyblood released a self-titled debut full of toothy, spirited, tough-minded DIY indie-pop. And now, for a sort of victory lap, Rookie has convinced them to cover the slinky “Mesmerizing,” which only emerges as one of the highlights of Liz Phair’s classic-upon-classic debut album Exile In Guyville after you’ve been listening to that album for at least a few years. The former Hole bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur produced Honeyblood’s cover, which juices the original with some impressive guitar fuzz and makes me wonder if the world would be a better place if Liz Phair had a Scottish burr.
