YACHT are back with a new single on a new label. “Where Does This Disco?” is out now on Downtown, along with a remix by Jerome LOL of DJ Dodger Stadium. Jona Bechtolt and Claire L. Evans issued a statement explaining the thinking behind their punny new wave super-jam:

“Where Does This Disco?” is about love and compact discs. They’re both on the edge of becoming obsolete, and they both get scratched if you play them too hard. They’re both mirrors, but one is still the best medium we have for connecting with each other.

Cool concept, and the results are even cooler — like a PC Music cover of New Order’s “Blue Monday,” only more human (but not, you know, more human than human). Jerome LOL’s remix relaxes the groove and adds some spacey bleeps and bloops. Hear both versions below.

In addition to the new music, YACHT have embarked on some other creative endeavors. They built an iPhone app called 5 Every Day intended to suggest five “ephemeral” things to do every day in Los Angeles. Here’s a trailer:

YACHT have been invited to speak about their multidisciplinary approach at the WIRED By Design conference 9/29-10/1 at Skywalker Ranch along with Dan Deacon, Doug Aitken, and Yahoo! CEO Marissa Meyer. Oh, and they’re going on tour. Big fall coming up for YACHT!
