YACHT – “Works Like Magic”

YACHT

The electro-pop philosophers YACHT are coming back later this fall with a new EP called Where Does This Disco?, and they’ve already shared the title track. Given that singer Claire L. Evans writes a great science column for Grantland, it makes sense the the group’s new songs are concerned with technology and sci-fi. “Works Like Magic,” another new song from the group, is a song about how we use technology to try and find intimacy. But it’s something rare: An optimistic song about that tendency, a song about how good it feels when you can pull that off. Listen to it and read some words from the band below.

YACHT write:

The science fiction writer J.G. Ballard once said that “sex times technology equals the future.” We argue that sex and technology coexist in our present: we touch, we push buttons, we seek intimacy in screens. When we connect, it works like magic. “Works Like Magic” is the first song we’ve written with our close collaborators, and bandmates, Rob “Bobby Birdman” Kieswetter and Jeffrey Brodsky.
