In another installment of Weathervane Music’s Shaking Through series, former Walkmen member Peter Matthew Bauer has recorded a new solo track, “You Always Look For Someone Lost.” Earlier this year, Bauer released his solo debut, Liberation!, but even when I spoke to him in March, he was already hard at work conceiving of his next record. “You Always Look For Someone Lost” might offer a glimpse of where things are headed from here — where Liberation! leaned in a rawer, more ramshackle direction, “You Always Look For Someone Lost” finds Bauer working with what is his now regular band to craft a lush, Wall Of Sound-esque style pop song. I asked him if this is indicative of what we can expect out of his second record, and this is what he had to say:

“It’s definitely the direction things are going. I’m about half done with a second record and this is what it sounds like when I have a shot at using a studio and playing with other folks instead of just overdubbing on my own at my house. This song was supposed to be the first song on my next record. Then the folks at Shaking Through asked me to do it with them. It may still be if I finish the whole thing soon.”

Below, listen to “You Always Look For Someone Lost” and watch the artist and production profiles from Shaking Through. It all takes place at the Philadelphia studio Miner Street, where I spent some time with the War on Drugs back in February.
