Yesterday, L.A.’s synthetic shoegazers IO Echo released a cover of Mariah Carey’s “Heartbreaker,” off of their new mixtape I’ve Been Vaping Your Tears, which is available for download today. Regardless of how undeniably funny the mixtape title is, I’ve Been Vaping Your Tears sounds vaguely sinister. The lead song, “Microwave” begins with what sounds like a plodding marimba accompanied by Ioanna Gika’s quavering vocals. It inevitably evolves into a dance track, albeit a downcast one.
