The CBC fired longtime on-air personality and Canadian music-scene champion Jian Ghomeshi last month amidst allegations that he beat several women against their consent during BDSM encounters. Ghomeshi sued his former employers for $55 million, a lawsuit the CBC moved to dismiss. Now a CBC spokesman has confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Ghomeshi has withdrawn the lawsuit and “will pay the CBC’s $18,000 in legal costs as part of his settlement agreement.” Ghomeshi was originally scheduled to be the guest at Amanda Palmer’s book event tonight in Toronto, but Palmer wisely decided to remove him from the lineup. The Toronto police department has opened an active investigation into the allegations against Ghomeshi.
