Jon Lawless usually records under the name Swim Good but, for his latest release, he decided to use his real name for the first time. “Capital” is the opening track to his new EP, Out One Night, and it’s clear from the get go that the Toronto producer has been absorbing the sounds of his scene. With back-and-forth vocals from Daniela Andrade (who also featured on last year’s “Grand Beach“), the track has the same beating heart as contemporaries Broken Social Scene and Stars. The new EP covers a lot of ground, making room for Lawless’ electronic experiments as well as some softer songs, but “Capital” most acutely captures what Lawless seems to be going for: big emotional bombast filtered down into easily digestible pieces.
