Monsters’ Ball: The Week’s Best Comments

Obviously, this has been a difficult week for all of us as we continue to mourn the passage of our friend, Hugo Chavez. There is little that we can do other than accept our grief, lean into our sadness, and wait for the cool, calm waters of time to wash away our tears. Remember that you are not going through this alone, we are all together, supporting each other through this difficult time. OK, enough. R.I.P. THIS JOKE. Have a good weekend guys.

After the jump, the five Highest Rated comments, as voted on by you, the Lowest Rated comment, the winner of the The Little Lebowski Caption Contest, and the Editor’s and Associate Editors’ Choices.

Can somebody give me directions to this “special hell”? Because if Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are there, that’s where I want to go when I kick it.

Uh this was her answer when someone asked her if she considers herself a feminist: “I don’t really think about things as guys versus girls. I never have. I was raised by parents who brought me up to think if you work as hard as guys, you can go far in life.” So this is definitely a girl who thinks feminism = man-hating, right? But my best friends Amy and Tina are going to hell for not helping other women (other women = Taylor Swift only)?

How hard was it for the Vanity Fair writer to keep a straight face during this? Scale of Bill Hader to Jimmy Fallon?

“But women who write songs about how much dick their crush’s girlfriend sucks are, like, totally going to Heaven.”

[Assoc. Ed. Note: Taylor Swift, everybody! That “if you work as hard as guys, you can go far in life” quote is bullshit! What’s with your parents, Taylor Swift! They seem super dumb! Unlike you guys who are SUPER SMART & GOOD AT COMMENTING!]

” If anything, this proposal of them as being anti-woman shows just how little Taylor Swift actually understands about, well, everything, but also women and the world of women and the women in that world of women.”–A Man.

When the most important member of your crew goes on a mission to avenge his mother’s murder at the hands of your arch nemesis, YOU GO WITH HIM.

I’m sorry, not to be all SUPER JUDGMENTAL about other peoples’ halloween costume choices and tolerances, but if you’re REALLY all that concerned about hard plastic mouthholes to drink through, maybe you’re just not that committed to Halloween. I don’t know. I just know that when I CARE about a costume, it seriously does not matter how hard it is to move or drink or go to the bathroom in. It’s about commitment. So if you don’t care about that, BY ALL MEANS, throw a trash bag over a hoodie and act like you’re SO CREATIVE. Great job, Halloween.

[Ed. Note: This is a pretty intense hardline position to take, but I have always appreciated the Videogum commenting community’s ability to speak its mind and not shy away from the honest truth even when it HURTS.]
