HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY! I hope you all have some nice plans with your mom this weekend, or if not, I hope you at LEAST sent her some sort of bath salts, or if not, I hope you at LEAST are going to remember to call her and email her a funny animal video. Don’t screw it up, guys. Mother’s day! It comes once a year!

[Assoc. Ed. Note: Great job this week, everyone! You can always count on you guys to be there to be the best whenever something happens. Feel free to quote me on that very smart quote. I laughed out loud at your photo, heimaey! Great job! And thank you to everyone for keeping me and each other company while Gabe was away today. You're the best.]

Oh Rihanna… you sure know how to prank. Remember that time that Chris Brown pranked you and then left you on the side of the road… oh wait….

[Assoc. Ed. Note: Wow, what a shitty thing to write! I can't believe that thought went through your head and then you typed it in and then you hit send. I mean, I can ALMOST tell that you were trying to construct a joke...like, at the expense of Rihanna? About the time she was abused? Because you were trying to show her who's boss 'cause she told a lame story about an on-set prank? You really got her, dude. She'll know never to tell a lame story to the press now, or else she's gonna get called out for that time she was beat the fuck up by Chris Brown. L.O.L. Got her!]

I don’t know. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt. If there’s anything today has taught us, it’s that there are a LOT of people whose ideas about homosexuality need a LOT of evolution. Maybe half the country, if the studies are correct. Most of us know or are related to people for whom the legalization of gay marriage is not self-evident at all. Hell, most of us were probably raised in that sort of environment. I certainly was.

Regardless of how politically expedient this decision might have been, I think the President is (intentionally or otherwise) displaying what most of us wish this country would undergo: a period of reflection about long held beliefs and the conclusion that those beliefs were wrong. It’s not ideal, but the alternative is waiting for everyone who currently believes gay marriage to be a sin in the eyes of God to just die off.

[Assoc. Ed. Note: This was a very good point. Although I do think it is fair to hold Obama to a higher standard, and to expect him not to pussyfoot around what he actually believes, it is certainly helpful to have a president giving a thoughtful explanation of the transition so many Americans still need to make. Serving as an example in that way. Which is what your point was. So. Great point. A+.]
