Rich Homie Quan & Young Thug – “My Homie”

Atlanta rap superfriends Rich Homie Quan and Young Thug have been making incredible music together, at a staggering rate, for months now. That partnership gave us one of last year’s best rap full-lengths in the Rich Gang: Tha Tour Part 1 mixtape. Some of us have been feverishly anticipating a Part 2 ever since we heard rumblings that one might be on the way, but we could be waiting for a while. In a recent interview, Rich Homie claimed that he’s putting the Rich Gang work to the side for a bit to concentrate on his solo music. That’s an understandable move. But Rich Homie was nice enough to break us off with what might be the last Young Thug collab for a while. “My Homie” is a dizzy declaration of platonic love, about how Rich Homie and Thug don’t trust woman but trust each other completely. It’s got one of the great weirdo-melodic back-and-forth choruses that these two do and that nobody else in rap can master. If this is it for a while, I’ll miss that chemistry. Check it out below.

The nature of Rich Homie and Thug’s Cash Money affiliation is a bit of a mystery, but do you think those guys are nervous about all the high-profile Cash Money defections lately? I would be. Maybe that’s why Quan is going solo for a bit.
