Van Morrison – “Some Peace Of Mind” (Feat. Bobby Womack)

It took two people to parse Van Morrison’s extensive catalog for his entry in our Worst To Best franchise, and 34 albums deep into his career, he’s still got plenty of verve left. His 35th offering, Duets: Re-working The Catalogue, is due in three weeks. We’ve already heard the Michael Bublé-assisted version of “Real Real Gone,” and now Morrison has shared a reworking of “Some Peace Of Mind” featuring the late Bobby Womack. The original appeared on 1991’s Hymns To The Silence, but the updated version receives an upbeat infusion of Womack’s funky soul sensibilities as they trade lines before harmonizing for the last hook. Morrison described a missed opportunity to work on a Womack album in the ’90s, but they make a nice pairing on this track. Listen below.
