Hear James Murphy’s Cover Of David Bowie’s “Golden Years” For While We’re Young

While We’re Young is Noah Baumbach’s upcoming film about two 40-somethings feeling old and edgeless in Brooklyn. James Murphy scored the film, naturally, and we’ve heard small snippets of his contributions over the past month. Two days ago, Murphy premiered a gorgeous slice of ambient yearning called “We Used To Dance,” and today, we have another one: a miniature, all-glockenspiel cover of David Bowie’s “Golden Years.” Could anything be more appropriate? Murphy has echoed Bowie’s work throughout his career — crafting “Heroes” soundalikes and inflating Bowie’s own tunes into remixes of fidgety majesty — so this particular cover and this particular film fit together quite cozily. Listen below.
