Shut Up, Dude: This Week’s Best And Worst Comments

This week we got the Outside Lands and Lollapalooza lineups — both decent, especially if you like old British rock stars. We ranked 10 Marvin Gaye songs, 17 beach bands, and 30 Max Martin tracks. We recommended the movie Montage Of Heck and the new albums from Sufjan Stevens, Courtney Barnett, and Action Bronson and Earl Sweatshirt. We talked to OK Go, Royal Thunder, Chilly Gonzales, NEEDS, and Algiers. And of course we said goodbye to Zayn. Bye Zayn!

This is so much more damaging for them than any aggressive strumming Kozelek could muster.

You don’t realise how much you miss listening to new music by an artist till they release something like this.

This is a big one for me. When I was still married we had 5 kids, 3 of them were mine and 2 hers. At the time the kids were 16, 12, 10, 8, and 5. And this album was in constant rotation around our house. And all of our kids knew this album backwards and forwards. And they all loved it

But they were wildly misinformed about the popularity of it. Because it was the #1 album of OUR home it led our kids to believe it had to be a #1 album everywhere else. Instead of the indie rock classic it is. I remember them saying “my friends have never even HEARD of The Decemberists! What kind of rock are they living under that they don’t know this band?”

And that shit tickled my heart. Anyway, this is an amazing album and I love virtually every song on it. The Mariner’s Revenge Song is an obvious favorite but my personal choice is Eli, The Barrow Boy. It’s such a sad little song and Colin’s nasally voice suits it perfectly.

As usual, thanks ‘Gum. This is most def a walk down memory lane.

A nice write-up, but let’s just forgo the extra language and implications here and get down to it. This album is capital-G Great and will be on our year-end lists.

I hear this is how the band “Vague Tribal Sign” went bankrupt.

The lack of People of Colour on this is extremely problematic. Another example of institutionalized racism in the music industry.

It’s the new Yeezus, in more ways then one i.e. it’s more fun to talk about than listen to.

THIS WEEK’S EDITOR-IN-CHIEF’S CHOICE

Max the King of All Wild Things | Mar 25th Score:9

I really do not think that is the joke. I think it’s much more just a tone deaf “I love the cool new music too!’ tweet.
