It’s been over a year since Swedish dream-poppers the Mary Onettes released their EP Portico, a collection of seven buoyant tracks that easily soundtracked early spring. The group’s back just in time for warmer weather with their latest offering, “Ruins.” The track features vocals from Maria Usbeck, who sings in the Brooklyn-based group Selebrities. According to The Fader, the track was originally recorded for an unnamed Swedish film director without vocals. The Mary Onettes’ Philip Ekström later enlisted Usbeck to sing with him on the track. Her words curl up around the edges in a half-grin, perfectly complementing Ekström’s familiar hollow cadences. Listen to “Ruin” below.
