Dan Auerbach Announces New Band The Arcs, Boxing-Inspired 7″

Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys is embarking on another solo project, but this time he’s not recording under his own name. Auerbach’s new band is called the Arcs and will release their first single, “Stay In My Corner” b/w “Tomato Can,” on Saturday, 5/2 in honor of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao fight in Las Vegas. He told Rolling Stone the songs were inspired by boxing, but I think the buried lede here is that the Auerbach himself often spars before shows! I knew he was a boxer, but that’s some next-level stage preparation. The cover art (it’s boxing-inspired) for his initial 7″ release is above, but he also promises an “extra weird” solo album is on the way. Auerbach has released one other solo album, 2009’s Keep It Hid.

“Stay In My Corner” b/w “Tomato Can” are out 5/2 via Nonesuch.
