Strange Names – “Neighborhood” (Stereogum Premiere)

Brooklyn via Minneapolis pop trio Strange Names are steadily ramping up to the release of Use Your Time Wisely. Lead single, “Ricochet” has already received the video treatment and a remix from Yeasayer, and today the group shares “Neighborhood,” which overflows with ’80s dance and New Wave vibes. Layers of synths, spanning the spectrum from heavy and low-frequency to airy and jaunty, are punctuated with slap-happy drums and unexpectedly piercing lyrics. The track embodies youthful angst through a retro filter. Check it out.

Strange Names have some live dates this month, mostly with Azealia Banks:

05/11 New York, NY @ Irving Plaza *
05/15 Chicago, IL @ Concord *
05/18 Boston, MA @ Paradise Rock Club *
05/21 Brooklyn, NY @ Baby’s All Right (FREE Record Release Show!)
* w/ Azealia Banks
