Matt Valentine – “Unity” (Stereogum Premiere)

The last we heard from Matt Valentine (of the Vermont experimental rock group MV + EE) under his own name was way back in 2011, when he released What I Became on Woodsist Records. Next week, Valentine will digitally release his new double LP Midden Mound, which will eventually be available on vinyl this June in a limited-edition run of 300 copies. Today, we’re premiering “Unity,” the opening song on the 11-track record. The song initiates with a slow strum that might introduce a Western, an ideal preemptive hint at the smokey psychedelia that later unfurls from its humble introductory notes. Listen to “Unity” and check out Valentine’s tour dates (including some shows with J Mascis) and the album’s track list below.

Tracklist:
01 “Unity”
02 “Virtual”
03 “Near Yr Zone”
04 “Spirit”
05 “Freeware”
06 “Free Again”
07 “The Beater”
08 “Jeremiah Red”
09 “Now”
10 “Shine A Ton”
11 “Black Sun”

Midden Mound is out digitally 5/12 via Child Of Microtones. Limited edition vinyl is out at the end of June via Golden Lab Records, pre-order it here.
