Brooklyn-based songwriter Pepi Ginsberg made it onto our radar with the colorful, psychedelic video for “The Waterline” from her third album Red. The song blended Edie Brickell warmth with a jazzier early-period Jolie Holland enunciation and a general Beatnik feel to the old-NY lyricism. On “Son,” another Red track, Ginsberg sounds more like Dylan in her cadences, reminding us that she’s “not your man” across the tune’s slow unfurling. Just in case you were confused.

Remember, Red was produced by Dr. Dog’s Scott McMicken, who we saw getting Biblical earlier today.

    I bumped into this girl sniffing around in 1968. Nashville Marquee Red Moon Skyline is a sound worth digging around for. Max’s is a club worth reopening.
