“Avril 14th” might be Aphex Twin’s most well-known song, which is almost surprising given the fact that the delicately-rendered piece is a lone piano composition that sounds like it would shatter if it were to be sandwiched between any of the producer’s signature acerbic tracks. The song owes some of its notoriety to the fact that Kanye West sampled it on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’s “Blame Game” (poorly, according to Richard D. James) and Andy Samberg serenaded Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadeinejad to the same tune. Now James has offered up a mirage-like alternate version of “Avril 14th” titled “avril altdelay” via FACT.
