Big Boi Says OutKast Turned Down The 2004 Super Bowl Halftime

Big Boi guested on today’s episode of ESPN’s “The Dan Le Batard Show” during which he mentioned that OutKast were asked to play the Super Bowl’s halftime show in 2004. Pitchfork points out that according to Big Boi, the duo declined because Andre 3000 refused to perform snippets of songs as is typically expected during the televised halftime show. OutKast would’ve performed “Hey Ya!” and “The Way You Move,” both of which were released on 2003’s Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. Big Boi wanted to perform, but Andre’s decision was final. Had he changed his mind, we might not have witnessed Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction during her duet with Justin Timberlake. You can hear Big Boi talk about the halftime show invitation by listening to Dan Le Batard’s show at the four minute mark.
