For years, the French website La Blogothèque has been filming musicians playing in public places around Paris for their Take Away Shows video series. The latest participant is Kurt Vile, who hunches over a piano to play “Lost My Head There,” a song from his recent b’lieve i’m goin down…, in a busy Parisian restaurant. Vile is an absolute guitar wizard, but he’s not there yet on piano. He mostly bangs out the song’s central figure one-handed while playing along with a click track. But he’s still such an odd and fascinating presence, fading into the corner and hiding behind his hair while he makes all these weird hiccuping vocal noises. Check it out below.
