Sharon Van Etten Is Going Back To College, Hopes To Become A Therapist

California Sunday Magazine and Mailchimp’s Q&A series “The Thread” has been going all year, facilitating conversations between artists like Ben Gibbard & Mark Kozelek, Father John Misty & John C. Reilly, and Bethany Cosentino & Molly Ringwald. Their latest matchup is Sharon Van Etten and Sharon Jones (of And The Dap-Kings fame). They discuss life on the road, Jones’ cancer treatment, and a bunch more.

Van Etten also reveals that she recently got into college: “I never finished school and I have had the desire to go back and challenge myself. I am so nervous,” she wrote. In the next email, she continues:

I will be studying psychology. I only went to two years of college — and that was over ten years ago. Needless to say, I am nervous about how much things have changed with technology. But I am excited to study and learn and be around others that challenge me in a different way. I hope to become a therapist one day.

That’s great news! Hopefully that doesn’t mean she’ll take too long of a break from music, though — her latest release, the I Don’t Want To Let You Down EP, made our list of great EPs from this year, so we’d love to hear even more.

She also mentions that she saw Julien Baker recently, and was moved to tears. Us too!

In more recent and related news, Van Etten was a special surprise guest at last night’s Jack Ladders And The Dreamlanders show at Mercury Lounge in NYC.
