Watch Father John Misty’s Great Performance Of “Holy Shit” On Colbert

When Father John Misty started the album-release cycle for last year’s stunning I Love You, Honeybear, he did it with a memorable late-2014 performance on the Late Show With David Letterman. Last year, he made his return to that same studio, though the show now belongs to Stephen Colbert. On the show, FJM sang the album track “Holy Shit” — or, if you’re Colbert, “a song from his album.” This one wasn’t quite as conceptual as that Letterman performance, though it was pretty amazing in its own right. Josh Tillman sang most of the song in a single spotlight, with his band hidden in the shadows. And the moment halfway through, when the band came roaring in and the song exploded outwards, was a cool moment indeed. Check it out below.

I Love You, Honeybear is out now on Sub Pop.
