Great Pagans – “Call Of The Void” (Stereogum Premiere)

Brighton, UK four-piece Great Pagans make some glimmering gloom that is good for what ails you. “Call Of The Void” is their first offering since their solid 2014 debut Cupid In Error. They toe the line between sorrow and fulfillment with a grace that has only strengthened since their last album. A bright synth pattern is offset by heavy, rolling drums, deep bass guitar strums, and frontman Alex Painter’s absorbing, melodic laments. The song builds to huge moments early with guitar stabs ringing out to the heavens, but shrinks to a halt midway through before ramping back up to euphoric heights. The interplay between the soaring instrumentation and the sadness in Painter’s delivery makes a truly cathartic excursion. Check it out below.

“Call Of The Void” is out 3/11 on Anti-Ghost Moon Ray Pre-order is available here.
