Acid Dad – “Fool’s Gold” (Stereogum Premiere)

A sultry guitar and trance-inducing “ooh la las” create a mesmerizing ambiance at the start of “Fool’s Gold,” the second track off Acid Dad’s debut EP Let’s Plan A Robbery. Bursting with youthful angst, the song explores trepidation about returning to a destructive relationship via lyrics like, “because I fall and I crawled all this way for you.” Through ’60s-influenced vocals and guitar sounds, combined with a steady bass and thrashing drums, the Brooklyn band skillfully combines psychedelic and punk rock sounds to establish their own. “Fool’s Gold” builds into a kaleidoscopic, rebellious tune, capturing the buoyant feeling of city shenanigans.
