Mavis Staples – “Dedicated”

Mavis Staples’ latest album, Livin’ On A High Note, sees a bunch of songwriters penning tunes for the legendary singer, including Nick Cave, tUne-yArDs’ Merrill Garbus, Neko Case, and Benjamin Booker. We’ve already heard the Valerie June-written “High Note,” and today she’s shared another one, “Dedicated,” which was co-written by Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and M. Ward.

Not coincidentally, Staples will be performing at Vernon’s Eaux Claires music festival this year. “Mavis Staples is a true national treasure,” Vernon said in a press statement. “The Staples Singers’ catalogue is one of the most important in my life history. I’m beyond humbled to hear her sing on a song I had a hand in writing and to have her perform this year at Eaux Claires.” Listen to the new track via Pitchfork below.
