Sarah Neufeld, the violinist from Arcade Fire, is set to release her second solo album The Ridge this Friday, and it’s streaming early via The Wall Street Journal. Primarily made up of longer, grandiose songs that follow the whimsical sound of Neufeld’s violin and calming voice, The Ridge balances a darker tone with a breathtaking feeling. It is innovatively crafted through meticulous, experimental production, collaborating with Colin Stetson on a special kind of synthesizer called a lyricon and featuring fellow Arcade Fire member Jeremy Gara on drums and synth. Songs like “From Our Animal” highlight Neufeld’s impressive classical training, while “A Long Awaited Scar” captures her modern convergence with rock, taking you on a dramatic sonic journey. The Ridge is out 2/26 via Paper Bag Records.
