Atmosphere – “Salma Hayek”

Atmosphere – “Salma Hayek”

Veteran duo Atmosphere and the rest of indie rap stalwart Rhymesayers have been active leading up to the label’s 20th anniversary. Aesop Rock recently dropped a single in tandem with an album announcement, and Atmosphere released “The Lonely Rose” featuring the aforementioned Aes and fellow vet Blueprint last fall. They’re back today with the loosie “Salma Hayek,” a joint full of Slug’s signature stream-of-consciousness, non-sequitur boasts over a beat from Ant consisting of zooming synths, sparse guitar strums, and knocking boom-bap drums. Slug brags, “I’ve was spitting flows before flip phones,” and since that is true, it makes the outlandish similes, metaphors, and quick stories that follow weirdly believable. The song is another solid offering, which we have come to expect from Rhymesayers’ seasoned roster. Check it out.
