Carl Barat, formerly of The Libertines, is moving on. His as-yet-unnamed band consists of Gary Powell, the drummer from The Libertines, as well as Anthony Rossomando, the guitarist who replaced Pete Doherty. Didz Hammond, of Cooper Temple Clause, is the bass player. Barat describes their newly-recorded demo as a “testament to the struggles of The Libertines, yet quite different.” Doherty has his own band now, Baby Shambles. This seems vaguely reminiscent of when Uncle Tupelo gave way to Son Volt and Wilco… will one band be favored for success, only to drift into obscurity, while the other comes out of nowhere to make one of the best albums of 2001? Only time will tell.

NME reports.
