Nite Fields – “Voyeur” (Stereogum Premiere)

To kick off their tour to SXSW, Nite Fields is releasing a new single, “Voyeur”. Though their audiences often call them “dark dream pop”, this new single surpasses any one dimensional definitions that may be used to try to classify their sound. Though there’s sense of ominousness in the strings that lie below the beat and dreamy guitars, the buoyancy of each arpeggiated 80’s-esque drum hit turns this track into something much tighter than your average blurry dream pop piece. With the addition of some classically passive post punk vocals on top of it all, “Voyeur” is as much an throw back as it is something you might imagine hearing as you walk into a dance club where everyone is wearing all black and smoking cigarettes and wearing berets. Serious but entirely danceable, this track show’s that Brisbane natives Nite Fields aren’t done exceeding the expectations of their listeners, and building out their unique sound. Listen below.
