Times New Viking Reuniting For Ohio’s 4th & 4th Fest

Columbus lo-fi scrappers Times New Viking haven’t released an album since 2011’s Dancer Equired!, and they haven’t played live since 2012. In the interim, guitarist Jared Phillips moved to Cleveland, singer/keyboardist Beth Murphy decamped to Memphis, and drummer/vocalist Adam Elliott spent time drumming with his brother Kevin’s band Connections. But the legends of Columbus indie rock have a tendency to reunite for local summer parking lot festivals — hence appearances this decade by Scrawl, New Bomb Turks, Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments, Gibson Bros., etc. — and Times New Viking will become the latest in that line with an appearance at 4th & 4th Fest in Columbus this July.

It’s exciting news for anyone who bore witness to the frankly incredible and underrated Columbus scene of the mid-to-late aughts — shout out to Necropolis, Terribly Empty Pockets, the Lindsay, El Jesus De Magico, et al — but also for all who caught wind of TNV when labels such as Siltbreeze, Matador, and Merge championed them to the world. (Yo La Tengo, for instance, became big fans.)

TNV headline a bill that also includes the Thermals, A Giant Dog, Diet Cig, Dilly Dally, Hoops, St. Lenox, the Pink Owl, White Reaper, and Whitney. It’s going down Saturday, 7/9 at Seventh Son Brewing in Columbus. Tickets are available here starting this Friday, 4/8 at 10AM EDT. As a resident of Columbus I’m biased here, but this one is worth traveling for.
