PINS – “Trouble” Video

Manchester dream punk quartet PINS unleashed an excellent record in last year’s Wild Nights. They expertly craft a moody, floating, fantasy-like aesthetic anchored by cutting lyrics and plenty of badass attitude. For Record Store Day this year, they’re dropping a 10″ single which features new tracks “Trouble,” “I’ll Get Mine” and a “Trouble” remix. “Trouble” is the A-side of the single, and we get to hear it today along with a stunning set of visuals.

The song is marvelously dark and menacing. An irresistible distorted driving bass line and subtle syncopated drums accentuate beautiful harmonies and the infectious repeated refrain, “You knew I was trouble.” Faith Holgate alluringly hints “I told you so” at a lover who should have known full well what they were getting into before things went to shit. Lines like “Don’t call me sweetheart” sting mercilessly. The matching clip, directed by Sarah Jenny Johnson and Olivier Richomme, is a striking play of light, shadows, and stuttering overlays in black-and-white. The darkness of the video is punctuated by bright bursts of light and artful focusing techniques, mirroring the balance of the dreamy, but gloomy sound of the band. Check it out.
