T-Rextasy – “Gap Yr Boiz'”

T-Rextasy is one of the most exciting live bands coming out of Brooklyn’s ever-expanding DIY scene, mainly because they don’t sound like any of their peers. When I saw them perform for the first time, I couldn’t get over two things. The first is that they’re all really young, like, just-barely out of high school young. The second is that they remind me of No Doubt so much. Lyris Faron’s lilting baby voice, her camo cargo pants paired with a crop-top, and her stage presence recall the first time I watched No Doubt’s “Just A Girl” video. That song was so, so important to me at a young age, and Gwen Stefani was this shiny beacon of sexy, smart, badassery that I didn’t want to mimic so much as bow down to. T-Rextasy could very well become that icon for a lot of tweens; their songs are catchy and funny and they talk about very real problems that young women encounter everyday. We debuted their forthcoming album’s first single, “Chik’N,” a few weeks back, which is a song about being treated like a piece of meat by catcallers, ex-lovers, and shitty men of the world. This new one, “Gap Yr Boiz,” is a takedown of voluntourism and guys who choose to up and leave you, without explanation, in pursuit of the Greater Good. Listen below.
