America’s country and country-influenced artists don’t often do well in the UK, and it’s cool to see someone like Jason Isbell, a guy who knows what the fuck he’s doing, making some inroads over there. Isbell appeared on a recent episode of the BBC’s live-music show Later… With Jools Holland, singing “The Life You Chose,” one of the standouts from his great 2015 album Something More Than Free. It’s a bit weird to hear that world-weary storytelling coming from that oddly lit-up stage, but it works. Check out the performance below.
