The first taste of the Adult Swim’s 2016 Singles Series is here. Kicking off 25 songs in as many weeks from Run The Jewels, Vince Staples, Against Me!, Metro Boomin, Earl Sweatshirt, and many more is DJ PayPal’s Chi-town footwork frenzy “Dose.”

Fellow Teklife crew members DJ Earl and DJ Taye assist on four and a half minutes of synthed-out energy fluctuation. Layers on layers of synth patterns range from 8-bit-like video game scores to lingering string-like flourishes, and all are arranged in intricate, intertwining patterns that oscillate the energy up and down with a fluid ease. Things get weirdly cosmic in spots like the sonic equivalent of zooming through space fighting aliens and shooting laser guns, but then it slows for a more cinematic feel in other moments for a great temperament. I don’t envy whoever has to chop “Dose” up for Adult Swim’s bumps because there are so many good sections to choose from. Listen.
