So, Kevin Gates’ major label debut, Islah, went gold despite some peculiar moves, whoulda thunk it? Anyway, the Baton Rouge rapper has never been one to sit idle, and almost exactly four months later he’s followed up with the Murder For Hire II mixtape. It’s a short offering of eight tracks that feels a lot like album leftovers, but it’s decent. Gates is pretty much on his solo dolo with only one guest feature, and he’s still spitting that raw rough and tough stuff. It’s also a bit of a throwback to an ’00s mixtape, with DJ tags galore and shoutouts to random people. Listen.
