Someone sent me this Bostonist interview with Alec from CYHSY.
Q: Have you checked out Stereogum? They’re huge fans.
A: Stereolab?Q: No, Stereogum. Its a music blog and they love you guys.
A: Oh, no. No internet.
Fair enough. … But wait, what’s this:

we have an album coming out. was wondering if you’d want to hear some of it. you put one of our songs on your valentine’s ipod thing and it was lovely.

So Tyler’s the one with Internet! You heard it here first.
The band plays Irving Plaza on New Year’s Eve. You can start lining up now.

Your noses are brown.
at least thunderbirds are now still like us
He’s in total denial.
It’s cool dude whatever, yeah you guys were doing pretty awesome before the internet, you’re totally right. No I’m serious, it was just like a slight puff of warm air, the momentum was there!
If we don’t suck up to CYHSY, then they’ll stop inviting us to the Clap Your Hands Say Yeah mansion, and we won’t get to frolic with the Clap Your Hands Say Yeah bunnies anymore.
seriously stop posting about them
so many other better bands to write about than this b grade crap
Bubble pipes all around!
I asked Alec in June after they sold out of their initial 2,000 units: “As a random and arbitrary benchmark, The Game sold 1.14 million units in four days. You guys are way better than The Game. Do you agree?”
He answered: “I’m afraid I don’t know enough about The Game to answer this question.”
I was hoping to start a feud, but he quashed my dream.
CYHSY so owns the universe, I bet they will get signed by a record label soon and their first label album will be a Greatest Hits comp.
They’re not signing a record deal. They signed a distribution deal of their own and are cutting out the middleman.
Before the album was in any stores, I sent them an email using the address on their site and 3 of them got back to me individually, and one was kind enough to offer to meet me to sell me a copy of the album personally, but never wrote me back after I suggested we meet by the hams in the grocery store near our respective apartments. Luckilly, one of the others was able to get me a copy of the album. Alec was not one of the three. Its was both Sargent brothers and someone else.
thanks for the info on the show! i just bought my ticket.
ticketweb cost to see CYHSY next month in phoenix: $10 plus about $4 in charges
ticketmaster cost to see CYHSY on new years ever: $25 plus about $10 in charges
indiekids.org has better mp3s today than stereogum
but I still love you stereo
saying ‘no internet’ in 2005 is like saying ‘no tv’ in 1995. fuck that. tv and internet! viva stupidity, viva hate.
Lay off Alec, the reason he couldn’t meet you to sell an album is b/c he lives in philly. although it may seem like they are aloof or something, they’re not: Liberal arts degrees. The twins are good guys, and Greenhall’s about as nice a person as you’ll ever meet and Alec really is just a nice introspective guy. Sorry don’t know Robby. Like the music or not, the hype is just hype.
Oh, though they may not read your site, their management surely does.
